Everyday, I look over the path, not knowing where it comes from or where it leads. I catch glimpses of a bigger picture, scenes of a movie. There are a few people I see every day, like that girl that runs along this path at sun rise, or this couple walking a squirrel-chasing dog. There are those who walk the trail often, to and from work or school, and those that come once in a while for a stroll. Sometimes, there’ll be adventurous couples, hiding from view for an outdoor escapade, and questionable individuals trading money for illegal goods.
No matter who they are, they do not pay attention to me, they do not notice me. I am a lone sentry, keeper of the fenced lane. No matter the season, I stand still in my green suit, unmoved by time. I welcome the refreshing rain and the gusts ruffling my multiple arms, stretched towards the sky. Tall sentinel, I am a witness to people’s lives and the guardian of their secrets.
