I’ve realized something in the past few months: life is all about choices. We choose to go to school to get an education, we choose to hang out with some people, we choose what we eat, we choose where we go. Maybe not all the time, maybe not always consciously, but we do have choices. Even when we think we don’t deserve them, or that it would be wasted on us.

Sometimes, there are too many choices. I want to learn every language spoken, play every musical instrument created, I want to visit every country possible. I want to be an astronaut, a doctor, a real estate agent, a circus artist. But I’m choosing to write, because above anything else, that is what makes me feel complete. It is who I am, it is what I keep going back to.

That’s why I am here, right now. That’s why I have chosen yet another project, carrying my fears of failing again. But I choose to not let them stop me and weigh me down. I choose this path, and I choose to see where this will lead me. I choose to give a shot at my idea of happiness.” – Alixa

Destrim is a world I have been working on since I’m about 15. I’ve had all these ideas and attempted a few times to give it a life of it’s own, but I’ve never really found a way. With this blog, I hope to achieve this by posting 1000 words stories about this universe.

Inspired by both Philipp Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy and G.G. Kay’s Fionavar Tapestry trilogy, I built a world where all world are connected through portals. Mirrors of each other, they would take different directions, indirectly influenced by events happening in the original Destrim, City of Lights. It’s meant to be a beautiful place of glass and light, and magic, but also with a futuristic aspect with underground farms and technologies not yet discovered…

I’ve always wanted to write. When I was a kid, I was fascinated by books and the worlds that were then opened to me. I remember reading J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone when I was about 9 or 10. I remember writing my first short story about a flying cat in 4th grade. It’s always been one of my many passions, but I never thought I could actually make a living of it.

Currently in between projects, I’ve decided to give writing another go and treat it seriously instead of just a past-time. At 25, I’m currently in school, working to get my Project Management certification, as well as working full-time, and I’ll just see where life takes me. There are so many things to do, and so little time!

This is the second time this week I felt touched by a blogpost where I read about one’s deep devotion to writing and what it means to them.
The previous one was by Drem,She wrote a poem- ‘Let’s Write to Heal’.She’s going through chemotherapy and she wrote this beautiful poem, that writing helped her ‘heal’.Do see it.You will love it.

Looking forward to read more from you.^^ Keep writing.

  2. The great thing about writing is that you can be an astronaut, a doctor, a real estate agent, a circus artist via your characters.

Treating writing seriously is an important step. Best of luck with it 🙂

    • I haven’t, but I’ll go check it it asap! Yeah, I usually prefer to use my own characters and universe, but sometimes I just want to write a happy ending to my favourite characters cause they deserve it! 🙂

      • I know exactly what you mean. I write fanfic personally because sometimes something happens in the book or tv show and that is not what my inner fangirl wants to see, so I make my own story :p
