Safe and Sound

I had spent days walking through the desert. I was exhausted, but I had accomplished my duty. Escorting was never the most exciting assignment, but a job was a job. As hard as it could be, I knew I helped people; that in itself was reward enough for me.

The City of Light

Every night, I see her. There she is, smiling at me, like nothing ever happened to her. Like she didn’t die by the hand of a trusted friend, like she never suffered of loss. She takes my hand and guides me through stone halls, and we talk. She asks me how I am, how are things “back home”. I tell how I am struggling with stubborn friends who won’t listen to my warnings, and she helps me. I tell her how much I miss her, and she kisses me.

I Believe I Can Fly

This is going to be a hard one, Jacob thought as he raced swiftly to the top of the scaffolding along with three other boys. Their friendship was somewhat toxic, he knew it; they kept encouraging each other to do the most stupid and dangerous deeds, as if to prove something to each other. That was also why he loved them so much; they were his very best friends.

Remember

Do you remember the day you heard of this coastal city, hidden beyond mountains, where everyone is welcome? Do you remember what they said? That the sand was softer than any silk, the water was warmer than any bath, the sun was brighter than anywhere else.

The Little Girl on the Red Bench

The little girl on the red bench waited every Saturday afternoon for her mother to pick her up from her play date. She sang along music playing in her head and let her feet swing in the air in rhythm.
